Since the launch of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a diverse cast of personalities, and a exciting storyline showcasing divine entities, demons, and dark forces expanding in power within the city.
Note: Key plot points for the third episode of Campaign 4 lie ahead.
The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced
Episode 3 concluded with a huge suspense moment and revealed the first table of characters who will separate from the main group to undertake their independent quest, apart from the additional parties.
The combat-focused team includes the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), Wicander (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).
Why Split the Party?
Considering an extensive roster, it was obvious from the start that having everyone at one table would be unworkable.
That’s why, the initial installments of this story serve as an Overture, weaving together the characters’ stories before branching into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Planners, and Explorers.
The Nature of the Warrior Group
As described by the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for players who are drawn to a classically intense battle-oriented narrative style where non-violent answers are scarce.
At first glance, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might look unsuited, but the actions of the third episode demonstrate why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the warrior group.
Reasons to Leave
First, the party has a clear idea where to go next after a intense opening clash with the enemy group.
An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose passing kicked off the story’s plot—manipulated the enemy for his personal gain, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting Thimble, and stealing all the enchanted items to sell off.
Casimir then settled his debts and fled to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.
Personal Motivations
Additionally, each member has a specific drive to depart the urban setting:
- The rogue, as the companion and closest confidant, desires retribution.
- The adventurer is familiar with Timmony and advises that it is a hostile environment.
- The warrior and Wicander, having defied his house’s orders to kill the target and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
- But, their reputation as important members in House Halovar could enable the team access locations they normally couldn’t.
- Furthermore, Teor swore a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his rescue and will now accompany him everywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
Lastly, all of them are sought by the powers that control the setting for a multiple motives, making lingering locally dangerous:
- Thimble and The hero are notorious outlaws.
- The strong figure and The healer betrayed House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
- Teor is wanted dead by House Halovar.
This leaves them no alternative but to head to Timmony in quest for the antagonist.
Upcoming Developments
From the latest episode’s post-show segment, we learn that the combat party will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight participants to round up the Explorers and Strategists parties.
Fans can expect learning which adventurers will be in which group in the season’s last Overture episode, released on the upcoming Thursday.
