The Iconic Puzzle Game Wouldn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — A New Category Might Solve This

Each time a significant awards ceremony nears, you'll find a clamor to include of new categories to recognize underappreciated efforts and satisfy the passions of followers who have specialized interests.

My colleague made the case advocating for terror-themed awards. That would rule. Equally deserving are board games, which is someone's personal cause. However, I must insist if I try to elbow in front since similar to blinkered fanatics, I possess a compelling case supporting my request remains most pressing above others. The demand is this: There should be an award type for logic-based games.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Categorizing art by genre is not a science; opinions vary greatly, and inevitably generate discussions concluding with vague boundaries. It's understandable that movie academies steer clear of genre categories. But it is an unavoidable compromise in the world of video games, which are so diverse it's challenging to consider them one unified medium.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of achievement in video games to be recognized, and for games of all stripes to compete fairly, classification by type becomes crucial.

Current Gaming Award Categories

The major gaming awards offer these genre categories for Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Between them, these six categories actually cover numerous genres, allowing placement for most games within them.

Different situation exists for puzzle games. No suitable classification appears for their placement. Think about these this year’s best games, all very different: the architectural riddles in a particular game, fast-paced pattern recognition from another release, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles of a third title. Where could they possibly go within current classifications? Nowhere, that’s where.

Acknowledgment Issues

There are dozens excellent brain-teasers released every year lacking appropriate categories at major award shows, unless they happen to qualify for categories like Mobile Game, VR/AR Game, or the intensely contested small studio competitions.

  • A renowned logic title got overlooked completely that year
  • A different innovative game was excluded in 2019
  • Popular arranging title got ignored recently
  • Only a few puzzle games managed to sneak into small studio or handheld classifications

Significance of Puzzle Games

Commonly they're modest productions, however the design behind logic titles holds tremendous importance. Famous handheld logic titles stand as the most-played games worldwide continuing this trend for over a decade.

The iconic tile-matching title rivals well-known building titles competing to become highest-selling title ever; it also contends as greatest title ever. Logic titles represent cornerstones within interactive entertainment, and engaging with almost every other genre.

The Solution and Justification

Logic titles wouldn't face such difficulty. One could readily select five nominees with fascinating, diverse, deserving games annually without trouble — perhaps, with difficulty, since numerous excellent so many good games out.

And to reiterate, these are games that otherwise have no home at major gaming awards. Brain-teaser creators are working at the demanding boundary of video game design, producing among essential manifestations of the video game form. Similar to film action specialists, they warrant appreciation. We shouldn't delay 35 years.
